Manchester Museum of Science and Industry - March 2025
Year Five students embarked on an unforgettable adventure to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry! The day began with an exciting train journey to the museum, which was especially fitting as the museum is located on the site of the world's first passenger train depot.
Upon arrival, the children were treated to a captivating show called Revolution Manchester, where they learned all about Manchester's rich industrial heritage. The highlight of the day was witnessing a live demonstration of the machines used in cotton mills, which brought history to life right before their eyes. The fun didn't stop there! In the hands-on experiment gallery, our young scientists had the chance to use a gear and pulley system to lift a Mini Cooper and even create tornadoes out of steam!
It was a day full of learning, exploration, and excitement, and we are proud of our Year Five students for their enthusiasm and curiosity. We look forward to more adventures and discoveries in the future! What a fantastic trip! 🚂🔬✨
STEM Week February 2025 - Space!
STEM week was out of this world! First, we found out about the phases of the moon, and using biscuits, we recreated each phase and had a tasty treat along the way. Then we had a go at recreating the distances between the planets in our Solar System on a much smaller scale. We still can't believe just how vast our Solar System is! Finally, we put on an out of this world planetary performance to mark the end of STEM week!
Our World Book Day extravaganza!
On World Book Day, the Year 5 children took part in exciting reading challenges all around the school. From the cozy corners of the library to the bustling playground and even the quiet spaces of the corridor, they explored books in new and creative ways. Whether reading aloud in pairs, solving book-themed puzzles, or diving into their favorite stories in unusual spots, the day was filled with fun and adventure, celebrating the joy of reading together!

We love PE!
In Year 5 we love to be active, take a look at some photos of the fun activities we've taken part in so far this year:
Poetry Video - What's The Use Of That?
Feeling Festive! Christmas 2024!
Leyland Local History - October 2024
Year 5 have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of our local area through online research, books and old photographs. They even braved the elements to go exploring, following a map from 1938 and making comparisons with a 2024 version of the same route. They visited sites such as the old Police Station and Leyland Market to see how they have changed over time.
Cultural Week - Mexico! October 2024
Our theme for cultural week was Mexico, and we explored the language, food, dance and traditions of this wonderful country!
Day 1 - This was ‘nacho’ average lesson! Our year fives got a real flavour for Mexican culture when they made their very own salsa to go with their nachos!
Day 2 - Fiesta fever! The afternoon was spent moving and grooving to traditional Mariachi music! (Check out our video below).
Day 3 - Mexican Alebrijes (spirit animals). They are a colourful combination of two different animals that represent their personality, for example a cat means independence and freedom, while a dog means loyalty and protection. Can you work out what combination of animals our class have created?
Day 4 - La Bamba Rehearsals! Mexico is the largest Spanish speaking country in the world, so we learnt the whole of La Bamba in Spanish.
Day 5 - Performance Time! We showcased all the fun we had during the week and then performed our song (with instruments) in front of the whole school and lots of parents!
Mexican dancing, ARRRRRIBA! October 2024
Fiesta fever took over the year fives today, as they spent their afternoon moving and grooving to traditional Mariachi music!
